In Case of Emergency
For the University Community:
834-HELP
834-HELP, a University support line, is an
answering service that will connect callers
with a range of resources on and off campus.
834-HELP is available twenty-four hours a day,
seven days a week (some of the offices listed on
the help line may have regular business hours).
Resources also may be obtained online at
help.uchicago.edu.
For University Students:
Deans-on-Call
The Dean-on-Call, who can be reached at
834-HELP or through the University Police
(702-8181 or 123), is the University official
responsible for coordinating the University’s
response to student emergencies. The Dean-on-
Call and a specially trained Sexual Assault
Dean-on-Call are available twenty-four hours a
day, every day of the year; students may reach
either Dean-on-Call through the University
Police or 834-HELP (4357). The University
Police will initiate contact with the Dean-on-
Call when they learn of a serious incident
involving a student.
The Deans-on-Call receive training in
how to respond to emergency situations
and are kept informed about services
available to students through the various
offices on campus. The Deans-on-Call meet
on a regular basis to review their response
to crisis situations. Area Deans of Students
are notified about incidents involving their
students.
